This short little book is lovely. I heard a CBC Radio interview with Richard Ford, and knew I had to read the book. He spoke so eloquently and lovingly about his parents, about how their lives were not exceptional but their story deserved to be told. I believe in stories; they are what we leave behind, and everyone's life story is important. This memoir in two sections - one about Ford's mom and the other about his dad, powerfully teaches us that our lives matter, and that love matters. "The fact that lives and deaths often go unnoticed has specifically inspired this small book about my parents and set its tasks. Our parents' lives, even those enfolded in obscurity, offer us our first, strong assurance that human events have consequence."
