This book was recommended at a conference during a talk on Diverse Children's Books. This book is great in many ways - step-family / blended family, remarriage / weddings, facing fear / nervousness / big days, life changes / new family, african-american child characters, and a great style of illustrations. I can imagine the little boy's feelings on the day of his mother's wedding, and his very serious and important task of being the ring bearer. Too often we see little boy characters as messy, silly trouble makers; their fragile little hearts and delicate nature is often forgotten.
