This writer is a joy to read. Every word counts without the usual fill of overlong description of unimportant things. The novel is written with chapters almost alternating between the present and the past showing how the main character, Toni, got to be in the situation she presently is in. The story circulates around bullying - by teens, by police, by prisoners. It's a well told story from the point of view of the 17 year old girl from an ordinary family and her boyfriend who are accused and judged of being responsible for the murder of the girl's sister. I will be reading more of Stevens' books and not just because I like to support Canadian authors. The author who is from BC has placed the setting of this novel in her home town.
