If it weren’t for a dishonourable bet, Louisa Oliver would never have been invited to the seasonal house party of the scandalous Alexander Edgware, Earl of Xavier. But after her own embarrassing loss when her fiancé wedded another, Louisa is ready for adventure. Her chaperone, the plain-spoken Lady Irving, hopes that a bit of scandal with the handsome rake will be just what Louisa needs, provided the rake is not completely irredeemable. Alex tends to hide behind charming Numbered Expressions (a favourite being Number Three, Amused Tolerance), but Louisa sees through the masks -- and likes what she sees. Alex’ scheming cousin, the Marquess of Lockwood, benefits more from the hedonistic version of Alex, threatening the downfall of both Louisa and Alex. Warning: steamy scenes ahead!
