I had high hopes for this movie, sadly these were soon shattered. The movie lacked any passion and emotion, was super slow and almost unrealistic. I will be in your face when saying I am against incarcerated people with no experience in horse training taking care, taming and training wild horses. This should not be done. Many incarcerated people have mental issues, anger management issue and are not fit to be around such graceful animals, who were robbed of their freedom without committing any crime. Then you can see some incarcerated men physically hurting horses. Horses should be tamed by experienced trainers not by unstable people.
The main character was lacking any depth, his negative energy, constantly filled with anger transferred on his horse (no way to calm a horse down if your mind is not stable) and spreading thru the movie, it just did not feel "right". Could not be sympathetic with the main character.
Was hoping for some powerful and meaningful drama loosely based on reality, yet found a very slow, uninteresting movie and could not wait to finish it (was watching it with somebody else). You will not miss anything if not watching this one.
Please do yourself a favor: watch an emotional and powerful movie based on real events with real-life characters (not even actors) called The Rider (2017) instead. That was an outstanding masterpiece!!

A mellow watching type of show but it did have a decent story. To me it was entertaining to watch. I would not watch it again as it is not really a movie you re-watch.

I loved that this is based on real life events and in the end left me rooting for both horse and convict. Applauding his decision whole heartedly!!!

A 6.5 out of 10, or perhaps a 7 for the story is TRUE!
We really loved this film- very well-acted and inspirational to watch the horses and the criminals rehabbing each other.
This movie is a mirror image almost of a great documentary we already watched and enjoyed greatly. The photography was very well done also, and no annoying music.

The stories and photos at the end of the real people behind the movie bring encoragent, perhaps even a Canadian official might use it.

An impressively researched film, with a moving story and beautiful filmography. This film is very valuable for the public to see, as it highlights a program (W.H.I.P., or Wild Horse Inmate Program) that is not well known. There were some unrealistic depictions in the film, namely: (1) they do not use isolation boxes on horses as shown in the film, (2) they didn't discuss freezebrands or gelding - the latter of which means they cannot be returned to the wild, (3) violent criminals are not typically assigned to the program, especially merely by request of the prisoner, and (4) horse behavioral incidents like those depicted are not quite as unusual or dramatic as they make them look (working with mustangs is dangerous!). However, overall, the training process was portrayed quite well, and I loved the bond that grew between horse and man. For me and my family (we've adopted and trained three unbroken mustangs, and one of them went to the Colorado WHIP program for additional training), it was particularly moving. It is certainly a difficult film to watch, so don't expect it to be heartwarming or inspiring, but it is also generally honest and ends on a positive tone. My main suggestion is to keep subtitles on, as there is a lot of mumbling.
