Very disappointing!
Perhaps I expected too much from this film. Krieps was the wrong choice for this role, she didn't have the acting chops to play opposite Day Lewis and it showed. Neither a fashion film or mystery, just a poor drama. Very disappointing

A delight! Old pros DDL and Lesley Manville are truly at the top of their game. But so much of this film belongs to Vicky Krieps, the transformed plain Jane who skillfully takes the measure of DDL's cossetted character while stubbornly holding on to her own identity. A gentle film with fine acting, a subtle screenplay, and impressive cinematography.

This drama/crime movie starring Daniel Day-Lewis is set in the 1950’s, and about a dressmaker who has made quite the name and living for himself over the years, until he meets a young woman named Alma who becomes the love of his life. This movie had some incredible performances that really kept you engaged with the storyline, and also maintained a perfect pace throughout that kept you thoroughly entertained. I would rate this movie 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to those who like period-piece films that follow one's journey through love and artistry, with many twists and turns. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Absolutely one of the worst movies ever made. Poor storytelling, poor character development, a plot that is ludicrous, and a bizarre ending that tries to pass itself off as artistry. I've watched slow moving stories before that eventually justify the pace because it's necessary to develop something that eventually turns into a gem. This is not one of those. I came away with the absolute certainty that I'd just wasted 130 minutes of my life, and angry that I'd allowed myself to get duped. It's unfortunate to see a director that showed such promise with "There Will Be Blood" and even "Punch Drunk Love" waste his talents on his last couple of efforts. It's as if he's deliberately trying to turn himself into Darren Aronofsky.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson in 2017, this American drama depicts the life of Reynolds Woodcock---a renowned fashion designer in London.
His charisma and genius are matched by his obsessive, controlling personality.
Reynolds takes a young waitress as his muse.
With the excellent performances, the couple appear foolishly hilarious and funny at times, albeit both seem extremely dead serious.
I enjoyed the inter-acting of Daniel Day-Lewis and Vicky Krieps.

Incredibly tedious, with a few nice dresses. It made me want to eat an omelette.

"Phantom Thread" is an excellent remedy for insomnia. ZZZZzzzzzzzzz.......!

Rewatch "The Phantom Menace" instead.

No, don't watch that one, either.

I agree with the other recent reviews! I was fast forwarding through this film as I found it awfully meaninglessly slow, and the fashion business was never much of an interest for me anyway.
I gave this film a chance, mainly for the actor, Daniel Day-Lewis, however, I could have cared less about his character, his fashion, and did not feel anything of interest in the couples blossoming love for each other, if you can call that.
Did not even bother with the extras provided.

Very slow and awful movie. We painfully watched it to the end...not sure why as the whole story line was just awful. Who writes up this stuff. I give it a 2 star because of some good actors in it but thats about it.

I stopped paying attention within 5 minutes. I had it on for awhile after that but didn't really watch it.

Many interesting quotes from the film have been posted in IMDb ... thanks to the contributors. However, the film left out some good stuff from the extras that are as memorable:

From a deleted scene:

I never really like myself. I thought my shoulders were too wide. My neck was skinny like a girl. And I have no breasts. Except my hips are large than needed. My arms strong. But in his work, I became perfect. I feel just right. May be that’s how all women feel in his clothes.

Let’s join the stars and celebrities and London’s top genetic specimens. The occasion? A mannequin parade and spring fashion at the House of Woodcock.
Our first model Elizabeth wears a dinner dress with a fitted bodice of black velvet and a full skirt of silk veil, accented with emerald beading and jet buttons.
Alma wears a claret-colored hostess ensemble with a wool jersey blouse and a matching silk veil skirt trimmed with Alençon lace.

Ingrid wears a renaissance inspired suit of slate blue wool serge. The tailored jacket featuring unique shoulder details is trimmed with charcoal gray plassementerie, and is paired with a romantic full skirt, the unique touch of a Cavaliers Cape lined in crimson silk, custom feathered hat and Cavalier-style embroidered kid leather gloves completes the look.
Ellie wears a daytime ensemble of moss green iridescent wool with a full-length coat and pencil-slim skirt, paired with a vibrant floral silk lining and matching print silk blouse. The outfit is finished with a matching green hat in a fine straw, an exclusive house of Woodcock sting-gray design.
Make way for Bonnie, she wears an evening gown of emerald green silk taffeta. The skirt held away from the hips with inverted tucks. The wonderful bodice is of black ribbon lace with a décolletage for displaying one’s favorite jewels.

Ellie wears a spring suit in a soft fog-colored wool in a subtle plaid, paired with a built-in waistcoat of straw colored lightweight herringbone wool. The lines of the cleverly cut jacket continue into the lines of the pencil-slim skirt.
And now it’s the turn of Alma who wears a renaissance inspired gala gown with matching evening cape rendered in smoked colored silk velvet with golden Hurd taffeta skirt and cape lining. The bodice' s front slashing details is set off with strings of graduated sead pearls and crystal accents.
Ingrid wears a dinner ensemble suitable for casual dinners with friends or first nights out on a tropical cruise. A romantic silk organza blouse and silk taffeta skirt, both in soft azure blue, are contrasted with black wool jersey bodice, shawl, belt and handbag. The result was an inevitable loveliness from the House of Woodcock.
