It was a strange movie. Yes, quirky, but, interesting. I think the creature was definitely too much like human, but, then, I guess if the premise was developing a sexual relationship with it, then, it had to be identifiable.
It was realistic in its portrayal of the sad life of the female protagonist, Sally Hawkins, as a mute. She led a lonely, isolated existence for the most part, missing out on the normal human connections of life. Well acted, especially the male villain. Worth watching.

Was quite a good movie. I feel It did not require the sex scene. In fact, it spoilt the quality of the movie. Also, the flooding of the room was pretty stupid.

Beauty and the Beast with a twist. I don't think it need so much nudity.

I'm a fan of Del Toro but this was a big disappointment. Totally stole the vibe, color palette and tone of Ameile and a scene straight out of Delicatessen. I saw and thought this before looking it up to verify I wasn't the only to see it. Not only that, the cheap tricks were too much. Using the prejudice of characters to provoke empathy when he mostly didn't take the time to show us much about them. Boooooooo

A waste of 2 hours. Some of the cheesey sci-fi movies from the 1950s were better than this.

Really, really good movie. One of the rare Academy Best Movie award winning movies which I actually like. Directing, acting, cinematography, special effects...everything was exceedingly well done in this movie. Yes, it lived up to its hype...so go watch it.

Very quirky and strange; but also intensely important because of the message about equality and power. Love the setting, music, and Octavia Spencer.

54 quotes in IMDb already (thanks to the contributors.) However, some of the best quotes are silent signs. You just have to watch them, like this one:

Zelda: [Elisa looks noticeably happier] Why you smilin', hon? Well stop lookin' like that. What happened?

[Elisa shakes her head to say "nothing"]

Zelda: Why? How? How? Does he - have a...?

[Elisa nods and uses her hands to describe what the Amphibian Man's penis looks like]

Zelda: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

[pause]

Zelda: Lor'...! Never trust a man. Even when he looks flat down there.

[laughs]

"Decent?

"A man has the decency not to fuck up. Now that's one thing, that's real decent of him.

"But the other kind of decency, it doesn't really matter. We sell it, but it's an export. We sell it because we don't use it."

-Character of General Hoyt
