A very heavy movie to watch. It reminded me how much things have changed but that there are still racial issues. I was 25 when the Detroit riots were taking place and the news was not like it is today. The only news we paid attention to was the Vietnam war.

Very well done - very hard movie to watch.
The reality of this event makes me sick to my stomach, be prepared.

... Just to think, here we are, over 400 year's later...and nothing's changed. I feel so empty right now I don't even have the tears to cry for my own people anymore, there's just a hole where my soul should be.

Growing up in Chicago, one would be taking their life in their hands if they were to visit the Southside. Still hasn't changed. This movie is about black racists against people of other races.

Detroit was a very emotional movie for me. It was of course based on true events. Even with the dramatization of the film there is no doubt that events like the ones depicted in the film happened in Detroit and other parts of the country. The actors really owned there characters. The layout, visualization and effects of the film helped bring the film to life, as if you were in the midst of it all. It depicted how life was during that era for many African Americans in the country. I would recommend for anyone who is interested in learning about racial tensions in America to watch the film.

First and foremost, this was an excellent movie.
It showed the atrocious suffering and treatment at the hands of city and government authorities towards Blacks.

Found it difficult to: #1 observe one race of people mistreating another, #2 reminded that the more things have changed, the more they remain the exact same.

Very good movie. If you didn't know it was a true story you might not believe it. If you were wondering what the more current "black lives matter" fuss was about, this should give you a pretty good idea. A long movie, and not easy to watch at times, we none-the-less highly recommend it.

Kathryn Bigelow has made another well-crafted movie. "Detroit" is no light fare as it deals with the race riots of 1967. It's a period piece so lots of 1960s cars for those who spot these things. As for content, it's another look at the black/white issues which continue to bedevil "the blessed country". Faux-documentary streetside seems an appropriate description of the technique employed in the making of this movie. I suggest reviewers seek out out two other Bigelow movies - "Near Dark" and "The Hurt Locker"

Based on true events.
Detroit riots and policing, in the 60's.
Very realistic and troubling.

Makes for great viewing on a Saturday evening, can't say to much without giving away the ending. Sometimes justice is really blind.
