The main character, librarian Hanna Casey, has come home to a bedroom in her mother’s monstrous retirement bungalow after an ugly divorce. Hanna tries many attempts to put her life in order which is no easy feat as she purposefully left her marriage with nothing. She finds a ramshackle cottage that her great aunt left her and she hires an eccentric contractor. They bump heads as they figure out how to work together. Hanna is against library programs, book clubs, sitting and visiting, computer classes etc. but as the library is threatened with closure Hanna with the dysfunctional community steps up to the fight. Towards the end the story feels very predictable but then the author throws in a surprise twist. A humorous story set in Ireland.
