In 2007, Anna Akana lost her teen sister, Kristina, to suicide. In the years that followed, Anna realized that the one thing that helped her process her grief and begin to heal was comedy. So, she turned to stand-up comedy and YouTube as a form of creative expression. Now she relays the hard-won advice she herself could have used when she was younger. Tackling everything from falling in love to becoming financially independent to staying safe on the Internet, she opens up about mistakes she made when she was a teenager and what young women everywhere can learn from her.

Find someone who will inspire you to be a better person, who will make you laugh even when you don’t feel like it, and who is good to you no matter how tough things are. And strive to be that person for them.

...always be just means that you think about what you’re gonna do before you do it. Put some thought into it. Know what you want. Be conscious of everyone’s time.

Here are the rules I believe all good bosses should follow in order to create a productive and happy workplace:
Compensate fairly and pay promptly.
Feed people well and often.
Show your appreciation verbally.
Be clear and direct about your expectations.
Know how to utilize the talents of those around you.
Don’t waste anyone’s time.
Be a pleasure to work with.

And though I will still cringe in embrassment each time one of these memories is bought to the surface, I still give myself a little pat on the back for the attempt, and I silently vow to do better next time.

These are not actually letters to her dead sister. They are just self-centered blog-like articles trying to brag about her successes though she is actually a failed actress and unfunny comedian. I thought that these would be letters, but her sister or her memory is not in this book at all. This is only a how-to guide for other failed actresses who want to obsess over themselves on a YouTube channel. This book helped me to get over watching Anna Akana and unsubscribing from her channel as she is disconnected and deeply unlikable here.

A fascinating memoir of a girl struggling to deal with the deal of her sister, finding her way through the darkness and onto a successful career as a youtuber.

2/3 "Girlboss" + 1/3 dating advice. I thought this would deal a lot more with grief and suicide?
