Beautiful, quiet read that would work well as a bedtime book. I wish the author had included the "Note to Readers" (What was your house once?) as part of the story.

I loved this delicate, quiet story. Not only is it informative and educational on how a house is built, I loved following the cat around from page to page. Freedman does a fantastic job at balancing the use of white space and watching colors explode brilliantly on the page. A job well done!

Gentle and sweet, this book describes where materials for a house can come from (or what they once were). From an oak tree to a door and from a sandy beach to a glass window; the story weaves a path that will leave kids looking at their own homes differently.
