As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.

A good story that doesn't just address the role of women in organizations like NASA. But what people of color also had to deal with many years ago in the USA and a few other countries. In this movie though the women check facts and figures in the end they get interested in computer programming as a means of job security. NASA head makes moves to establish a more equal environment as to women doing certain jobs and people of color using the same washrooms and coffee. In the movie the women help NASA overcome some issues of their own and problems they are having with their own calculations and premises to those calculations.

This movie was so amazingly empowering and shows just how magnificent women can be, and always are. An amazing cast, just so great!

This film covers the true story of three brilliant African American Women and their involvement at NASA and their role in sending John Glenn into orbit. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson are beautifully portrayed throughout this story as their past of struggle, racism, sexism, and more is uncovered. The movie brilliantly showcases the lives that they lived and their contributions to one of the largest moments in American History. The United States has a complicated history with race and sex discrimination that was brought to light through this film so that the women could get the recognition that they deserved. I would rate this film 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to history buffs and those interested in space travel and technology. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library

Tedious and not enough time spent on the space technology. Implausible in places, like when Dorothy "fixes" the computer, it would not be possible without knowing the machine architecture. The men, apart from Harrison, were made to look stupid. IBM would not send incompetent technicians to such a high profile client like NASA.
Too much of a political agenda for my liking, I thought it would be a lot better, rather disappointing.

Touching and inspiring story. All three ladies should have been nominated for Oscars! I thought Jim Parsons' role could have been fleshed out a bit more, but otherwise, I really enjoyed this.

Interesting (and funny) movie about the female African-American mathematicians working for NASA during the 1960s race for space. Enjoy the movie and then read the real story about these trailblazing women.

Background on the early space program not know by many. Also, a peek into the early education system for African-Americans geniuses. A important Woman's story I didn't read in my history books while in school. Granted a "feel good" movie, but well done. I would love to see more about the untold stories of the early history of American's Space Program.

Many excellent quotes in IMDb and of course from its book at goodreads .... this classic gem appeared in the film but not in the book:

Despite what you may think, I have nothing against y'all.
- I know, I know you probably believe that.
