€́œ€́ŒLyall€́™s debut is a winner.€́ €́”Publishers Weekly €́œWhat€́™s with the get-up? Is that the company uniform or something?€́ €́œThis? All P.I.s wear a trench coat.€́ €́œDude, that€́™s a brown bathrobe.€́ I shrugged and straightened out my sleeves. €́œFirst rule of private investigation, Ivy: work with what you€́™ve got.€́ Twelve-year-old Howard Wallace lives by his list of rules of private investigation. He knows more than anyone how to work with what he€́™s got: a bathrobe for a trench coat, a makeshift office behind the school equipment shed, and not much else€́”least of all, friends. So when a hot case of blackmail lands on his desk, he€́™s ready to take it on himself . . . until the new kid, Ivy Mason, convinces him to take her on as a junior partner. As they banter through stakeouts and narrow down their list of suspects, Howard starts to wonder if having Ivy as a sidekick€́”and a friend€́”is such a bad thing after all.

When Howard Wallaces' two best friends move away and move on to other friendships, Howard makes himself over into a private eye. Soon he's solving crimes in middle school until the new girl, Ivy, comes along and asks to get in on the action as a partner. Howard and Ivy work on solving the big case of who stole the student council cheques. It's a twisty, turny mystery, but the two detectives work together and come up with a solution. A great start to a funny series by Canadian author, Casey Lyall.

Howard Wallace, PI is a smart, quirky, fast-paced detective novel with lots of plot twists to keep you reading.
