A realistic version of the movement. Women bore the children who fought for their country, went to war and died. Yet they had very little say about those children, much like third world countries today.

Men won the right to vote in this country by sacrificing their blood and their lives.
Women were given the right to vote because of suffragists nagging of men.
This movie is a story of that nagging.
Personally, I think that only if you are eligible to be drafted into military service, hence have the potential to risk your life for your country at the behest of the government, should you have the right to vote. It's easy to point to someone else and say "you go and fight for me for my right to (name that 'right')" when you have no chance at all of being drafted yourself and risking your life.

This badly conceived, over-hyped "feminist movement" picture was nothing but a predictable, little chick flick that contained just about every single, stinking cliche in the book, and then some.

If nothing else - Its story certainly proved, beyond a doubt, that women are just as prone to brutal violence as are men.

I can't begin to tell you how much I wish that Meryl Streep would retire from film, once and for all. She is so utterly annoying.

What oppressive patriarchy looked like in the modern cradle of parliamentary democracy. What heroic lengths women went to win the franchise. I couldn't help but think of the 53% of white women who voted Trump last fall.

Informative and well-done movie about courageous women 100 years ago.

Yikes. This historically-accurate movie is a shocker. This was us 100 years ago! Well, actually it takes place in Britain, but close enough. Defenseless women being clubbed to the ground by police with billy sticks, and then kicked while lying there. A woman even had her child taken away because she was demonstrating. Women who were just demonstrating peacefully to be able to vote in elections! It is important to note that this was just a small fraction of women. They were doubly brave because it wasn't just men who took the other side. Many other women expressed the sentiment that "the men know best" and "i have no interest in voting, my decision".

A must-see.

A very confronting movie depicting the reality of the struggle of women to have their voices heard. I have never really thought about what it took to achieve the right to vote and although the movie skimmed over the real brutality faced by women in the suffragette movement, it generated a desire for me to really explore this subject further and fully understand what happened. What shocked me most was the closing credits highlighting when voting rights were gained across the globe, or not depending on the country.

Vastly over-hyped movie. Cinematography was horrid, with few scenes where it isn't in a room lit only with candle light. This film would probably appeal to those who fully embrace the feminist movement, forgiving the endless dialogue and shoddy acting.

Women and society today need to thank all the brave Suffragettes (our grandmothers and great-grandmothers) world-wide who had the tenacity and strength to endure violence and abuse as well as public shaming and condemnation to win social change and equality. Women who had no rights to their children, no rights to equality or justice, no rights to hold public office or purchase land, and suffered violence (along with their children) at the hands of their husbands and fathers. Unfortunately there is still inequality today and countries/religious practices which successfully continue to oppress both women and children. All peoples must continue to speak out and effect change.
