Brilliant and hard-nosed just as I like 'em. Hardy delivers again along with several others. Anyone having problems with library DVDs try rubbing alcohol as a cleaning agent. Works 90% of the time. So many library discs have been stained with lord knows what !

The copy of this DVD that I received was so scratched that I was unable to watch the second half of the movie.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film! It was well thought out and superbly acted. I liked the pace which allowed for many great subtleties which could be missed by some. Well worth my time and I would watch it more than once. If you didn't get the subtleties you might miss the greatness of this film which didn't simply rely on violence and sex but had a great story well told!

Did not watch- March 08, 2017
April 3, 2017 - I picked this up again by accident and spent 3/4 of an hour watching this boring, ridiculous, waste-of-time, "f" word filled movie. Terrible movie.

I thought to myself at the beginning of the film, "how badly is (London born) Tom Hardy gonna mangle his character's Brooklyn accent?" Well, his accent was slightly odd/off, but I grew accustomed to it and forgot all about it eventually. This tightly wound neo-noir did not disappoint. The writing and the cast were superb.

Gandolfini really got into the role and packed on what looks like 50 or more pounds. He smoked incessantly to portray his rough edged rotund alcoholic smoker..unfortunately it seems to have caused some cardiac issues...but great performance to die for.

I expected a lot from this movie and the first half hour was leading me to believe that I was not going to be disappointed but that wasn’t the case. None of the great actors could save this terrible boring predictable movie. This movie is forgettable and not worth seeing.

No.t as good as expected ( when compared to the excellent Gone, Baby, Gone) but well-acted by all concerned. Tom Hardy is an actor that always keeps your attention and the actor playing the Chechen leader was excellent. Worth watching

Belgian director assembled an international cast (Gandolfini – USA, Noomi Rapace – Sweden, Matthias Schoenaerts – Belgium, Tom Hardy – England all speaking English natural to Brooklyn and Michael Aronov –USA speaking Chechen accented English) to make a great crime film. Most of the film is devoted to develop the characters so we care about them as the criminal elements darken the film’s atmosphere. The idea of the film is developed by the same author as the excellent film Mystic River.
