Wood ducks are tricky to raise because they frighten and panic easily, often hurting themselves. On Hazel Ridge, an animal rehabilitation facility, young Heather finds a baby wood duck in the long grass, adopts him and cares for him throughout the summer. She and the duckling become fast friends … but then, it’s time for “Mr. Peet” to return to nature.
