A Southern novel of family and antiques from the bestselling author of the beloved Saving CeeCee Honeycutt

Beth Hoffman's bestselling debut, Saving CeeCee Honeycutt , won admirers and acclaim with its heartwarming story and cast of unforgettable characters. Now her unique flair for evocative settings and richly drawn Southern personalities shines in her compelling new novel, Looking for Me .

Teddi Overman found her life's passion for furniture in a broken-down chair left on the side of the road in rural Kentucky. She learns to turn other people's castoffs into beautifully restored antiques, and eventually finds a way to open her own shop in Charleston. There, Teddi builds a life for herself as unexpected and quirky as the customers who visit her shop.  Though Teddi is surrounded by remarkable friends and finds love in the most surprising way, nothing can alleviate the haunting uncertainty she's felt in the years since her brother Josh's mysterious disappearance. When signs emerge that Josh might still be alive, Teddi is drawn home to Kentucky.  It's a journey that could help her come to terms with her shattered family--and to find herself at last.  But first she must decide what to let go of and what to keep.

Looking for Me brilliantly melds together themes of family, hope, loss, and a mature once-in-a-lifetime kind of love. The result is a tremendously moving story that is destined to make bestselling author Beth Hoffman a novelist to whom readers will return again and again as they have with Adriana Trigiani, Fannie Flagg, and Joshilyn Jackson.

What a beautiful read. Was wrapped up in the story from the first page and felt like I knew the main characters personally.

I’ve been in another world for a couple of days now – the world of Teddi Overman. I entered her world in rural Kentucky when she was a senior in high school, earning some money by finding “junk” furniture and refinishing / painting it and selling it on the roadside. Teddi had a gift for finding good stuff and a vision for what she could turn it into. Teddi was from a farm family, with her mother, father, grandmother and brother all living in the same house. Her younger brother Josh pretty much lived in the woods around their farm, studying and spending time with all the wild creatures that lived there. He wanted to be a forest ranger and protect the wild areas. Beth Hoffman’s writing drew me deeply into their lives. Through Teddi’s eyes I saw them grow and change, and the world change around them. Teddi left home and went to Charleston to pursue her dream of restoring antiques and selling them, but she made it back to rural Kentucky as often as she could as her roots were deep there. Josh’s work to protect the animals grew stronger and some of his choices put him outside “normal” society. And then he disappeared. “Looking for Me” is a well-written novel about family love, loss and change, about taking risks and growing into the adults we want to become. I grew quite fond of the quirky people who inhabit this story. I laughed and cried while reading this book (not always the best thing to do when in public…). If you’re ready to explore lives and choices you might not make for yourself, but that are fitting for the characters in this book, it’s time to read it. Complex, full of life, love and pain, reading this book can help your heart grow.

Loved this book. Great characters and an intriguing storyline. Very well written. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author. Southern type book but not the typical formula type. Was sorry when it ended, I wanted to go on reading.

This is a gem of a novel. Although it is accurately listed as a "Southern novel", it is not that sappy, cliche-driven story that is often portrayed as "Southern". Hoffman is a master story-teller as well as a gifted writer. There are sentences to savor on every page. I can't wait to read her first novel and will look forward to anything she puts on paper!

Loved this book. There are reasons that things are happening in Teddi life. From her brother, Josh who she keeps looking for, the secrets that are finally answered and the love that she has been waiting for. Beth Hoffman is a one of a kind author.

I liked this book and the characters. The mother was not a happy person, but we all make our happiness. I recommend this book to those who like stories about families.

This is a slow gentle story that meanders all over the place. For those who enjoy character over action.

I did not enjoy this book as much as I
did her first novel. It took me a long
time and quite a few chapters to really
get into the book.
