In the small Sicilian town of Baaria in the province of Palermo, a family saga spans three generations. During the Fascist period, simple shepherd Peppino Cicco leaves to indulge in his passions: books, epic poems, and the great popular novels of love. His son witnesses the famine and injustices perpetrated during the Second World War. Following the war, he meets the woman of his life. But Peppino became Communist and opposes their union.

Baaria has one of the most brilliant beginnings I've ever seen in a film. The ending is even more impressive. Too bad that the middle part is a long and tedious tale. My advice is watch the first scene and cut to the ending. It's a good exercise for your brain to imagine a better middle.
