The story begins in 1997, as shocking news reaches retired Mossad secret agents Rachel and Stephan about their former colleague David. All three have been venerated for decades by Israel because of the secret mission that they embarked on for their country back in 1965-1966, when the trio tracked down Nazi war criminal Dieter Vogel, the feared Surgeon of Birkenau, in East Berlin. At great risk, and at considerable personal cost, the team's mission was accomplished - or was it?

A very good thriller about young Israeli Mossad agents capturing a Nazi doctor and getting him out of East Berlin in the early 1960's; what went wrong and how they lived after the mission.

Excellent cast, story and plot. Thrilling, engrossing and "edge of your seat" watchable.

A solid movie about the capture of a Nazi doctor in 1960 and its subsequent public perception and legend. A very well done thriller and story. Helen Mirren & fellow actors are great.

Directed by John Madden in 2010 as a British-American remake of the 2007 Israeli film, this thriller delves into the mission to capture Nazi war criminal Dieter Vogel infamously known as "The Surgeon of Birkenau" for his medical experiments on Jews during World War II and to bring him to Israel to face justice.
The film switches back and forth between the past and the present.
It would seem much better if it had remained entirely in the past.
It appears quite interesting that Dr. Vogel criticizes the Jewish passivity by his own resistance as he fights against his captors, kicking, spitting in their faces, laughing at their authority, and ultimately escaping.
Vogel does everything that the Jews had not done in their captivity during the WWII while asking you how come the Jews could not fight back and escape the camp.

A very good film! Well acted, well written, well directed and is historical fiction tense drama. The story is revealed through present day events, mixed with 30 year-old flash backs, which makes the three main character acted by two sets of three people.
Helen Mirren (Eye in the Sky: 2015; Trumbo: 2015; Collateral Beauty: 2016), and Jessica Chastain (Miss Sloan: 2016; The Zookeeper's Wife: 2017; Molly's Game: 2017) are amazing in playing the younger and older character.
The extras are not that much more than a recap of the film, but does have Helen Mirren reflecting on the story.

Suspenseful story, but something's missing in the telling. It's hard to put your finger on it, but I was left not really caring enough about the main characters, perhaps because of its "revenge is necessary" plot. Also, not all the protagonists were likable. I agree that Nazi war criminals should be brought to justice, but without more backstory I didn't really think this film got the message across.

A bit difficult to follow at times but a decent movie. No awards for this one but at the end found it to come together.

This is a very good movie, psychological thriller with a great cast, Helen Mirren, Ciaran Hinds, Tom Wilkinson, etc.....three Mossad agents go to Berlin to capture the Butcher of Birkenau and transport him to Israel for trial shortly after WW2, but the plan goes off the rails and they have to cope....how they cope is the theme of the tale, good stuff.....

I like this movie verrrry much. I like the idea, the characters and, of course, the ending. This movie is about a woman named Rachel, who was sent on a mission 20 years ago with two men David and Stephan. The reason that they were sent was to kill a crazy doctor who was doing experiments on people. I won't continue so you can enjoy it and be excited for the ending. This movie is appropriate for 13 years and over and I give this movie 7.5/10.

Doktor Bernhardt: Do it. You want to do it... Do it.

Young Rachel: [finishes shaving his neck]

Doktor Bernhardt: That's right. I'd forgotten. You Jews never knew how to kill. Only how to die.
