Half way thru and doesn't seem like the usual Clive book... heavy on description and light on action

I cannot understand why Cussler suddenly decided to create a new pair of characters that are basically the same as his previous ones. The plot was typical of his previous books, lacking credibility but full of action and entertaining. I think one thing I'm starting to dislike very much about his writing is the James Bond wannabe personality he has been giving his heroes more and more in each book I read
