I much preferred the Charles Bronson film from 1972. This one is 2011 and did absolutely nothing for me in any scenes at all. I am so happy not to have spent any money in the theater. Jason Stathan seems likeable enough but Ben Foster is a loser in all his roles.

As good or possibly better than the original 1972 film. Was surprised at the quality of Jason Statham's and Ben Foster's performances. Liked everything about it.

Have to second commenter, PearlyKayAm1, terrible remake!
Jason's ultramodern home in the swamp (bayou) was not only incongruous; I can't believe such a house actually exists, having stayed in that area for a short time after boot camp with an old military buddy [will never return, that's for certain!].
The original wasn't superb, but it was superior.
Now the recently released movie, The Accountant, was original in a number of respects - - quit making lousy remakes, entertainment industry people!

Terrible remake. Very few things are the same as the original and the remake suffers greatly by comparison.

Jason Statham does a pretty good job. However, no one can beat Charles Bronson in this role.

A week ago, I saw a new copy of “The Mechanic” with Charles Bronson on the library shelves so I thought I would see it again. I did not realize at the time that the new copy of the old movie was probably being rereleased because a new film of the story starring new school Jason Statham and Ben Foster were starring in the main roles. I liked this film, but I believe the previous film contained a more full depiction of the isolation of the life of a hitman. So I rank the original “The Mechanic” as being the better version of the two.

An above average action movie. Another remake, which I am starting to loath. Good action. Ok story. Forgettable dialogue with the best acting coming from Ben Foster. Worth seeing as a pure action movie.

It's predictable --but cerebral w/ original concepts. They could have cast a bigger name as the villain who had nothing to offer this film. The entire master/apprentice theme is overused, but you see something new here. Would say one of the best films about assassins in a while. Wonder if Statham typecast himself and is stuck playing assassins for the rest of his career though.
