“Mockingjay” is the final installment of the hunger games series. I was impressed with the first book of the series, “The Hunger Games” but I was disappointed by the second book of the series, “Catching Fire”. I thought “Catching Fire” would be like a bridge from “The Hunger Games” to “Mockingjay”. “Mockingjay” would then be the epic conclusion of the series but it didn’t really feel that way. The ending was a depressing and hopeless mess. It’s not like I was expecting an ending with rainbows and Katniss lives happily ever after with her husband. But, I wasn’t expecting the ending to be so gloomy. I also didn’t want the love triangle to be continued on for so long because that wasn’t the main plot of this book. I honestly hoped she would choose Gale but she was leading both Peeta and Gale on. By the end of “Mockingjay” I didn’t really care who she chose. Katniss Everdeen, “the girl on fire” also changed, but in a bad way. In “The Hunger Games”, she was strong, clever, and resourceful. But in “Mockingjay”, she was whiny and didn’t really have control over anything. Overall, “Mockingjay” was not what I expected it be. I know there are many other people who enjoyed this book but personally, I didn’t enjoy reading it. 2/5 stars.

This book is so great

Am I the only one who doesn't like the voice of the person reading it? I really don't like the inflections or the other voices.

They should have paid for an actor from the movies to read it.

Holy cow. As a spoiler alert, Collins does not mind killing off beloved characters. Ouch! Compelling from beginning to end with plot twists left and right. I have both read the book and heard the audio. The reader of the audio did a great job coveying the emotions of the characters. I could have believed each character spoke as she did, even when she did the voices of the male characters. But it all comes down to the story, and this one captured you from the first word and didn't let go until the end. I would read it again, and I would hear it again, and I can't wait for the movie (both parts!) to come out. By the way, I loved the movie treatments of both prior titles.

Really took me awhile to get into this book. It's not like the previous titles where the action takes place in the "games". Much of the action for just over half of the book is about the political aftermaths of the Hunger Games. The action heats up when the Rebels hit the capital. I liked that the ending isn't wrapped up like a gift with a pretty bow, but nonetheless, a great ending to a series that will surely become a classic one.

The revolution, sector 13, the relationships, and where does it all go. I felt that the author was trying to put too much into the story and also bring it to a conclusion all at once. A bit much and at times trying.

The ending was very tasteful and I felt very appropriate. Her greatest fear finally put away.
