Steven Creed is looking to start his life again following the death of his childhood sweetheart. What he absolutely isn't looking for is a fiery redhead like prosecutor Melissa O'Ballivan - a woman with plenty of demons of her own - to fall for.

As the daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

I got through chapter 7 or 8 and just could not go any further. The writing is incredibly stilted, as are the actions and thought processes of the characters. I was really surprised, since I recall enjoying an earlier book by this author.
