Way back in the late 1950's I had found this adventure novel to be entirely engrossing. Re-reading it now, I found it to hold up exceptionally well. Strong, complex characters sympathetically drawn, stunningly atmospheric settings and a gripping human drama. Definitely a cut above the usual YA fare of today.
