In this second volume, Lemire explores the heartbreaking story of Jeppard and how he went from a devoted husband to the ruthless mercenary he is now. Meanwhile, Gus is captured in a camp with other hybrid creatures where he meets Dr. Singh, a scientist studying the plague that's wiped out so much of the world. I finished this graphic novel in the wee hours of morning on July first, so I'm counting it in this mash-up review even though I technically didn't read it in June. Although I didn't like this one quite as much as it prodeceaser, I still really enjoyed it. I like how we got the two different perspectives - Gus and Jepperd (Jepperd's part even had flashbacks to them). I was amazed at how I didn't get confused through all of the changes.
As before, the idea is compelling and interesting, however in this instalment I found myself less intrigued about the story. I'm not quite sure why, but it just didn't stick with me like that of the previous volume.
I was also wishing that In Captivity we would get new animal-creature characters, which is unfortunately not the case. Sure, there is a few that Gus meets, but most of them cannot talk. Further, if they did talk, their scenes were very short and I just wish that they could have been longer! Alas, maybe the next volume will hunger my thirst.
All of that being said, Sweet Tooth continues to be a great graphic novel series with interesting ideas and a compelling story. If you like apocalyptic stories and science, this graphic novel series will definitely be a read for you!
4/5 stars.

Borrowed the first one, would love to have the others from the series
