While an excellent acted and reasonably faithful adaptation, it is hard for me to recommend this movie over the original book. It delves into the angstier elements of the story, and while that does make it seem more realistic, it kind of dulls the charm that I associate with Christie's storytelling. If you're like me and think of the words "light-hearted" in association with Christie's writing, the general atmosphere and theme of this movie may be very jarring. Another thing that made me roll my eyes was how obvious the conclusion to the mystery was made from the very beginning. I won't spoil what happens for those who have not read the book, but I can't imagine anyone having trouble figuring out who Poirot fingers as the murderer from the movie presents certain evidence.

One thing I will say in this film's defense is that, while it thankfully does not change the ending, it does delve deeper than the book does, exploring certain characters' motivations and explaining why they do what they do. The lack of that in the original novel was my one complaint with it, and the fact that this movie addresses that is why I cannot call it a bad movie, despite its other faults.
