Dre Parker finds himself in China after his mother's latest career move. He and classmate Mei Ying immediately fall for each other, but cultural differences make this friendship impossible. Even worse, his feelings make an enemy of class bully, Cheng who is quite adept at kung fu. Dre turns to maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a kung fu master and learns that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm. However, Dre realizes that this may be the fight of his life.

The Karate Kid (2010), part 5 in the franchise, is not really a great movie. Jackie Chan is what made it somewhat good. They should have let the series go after part 3!

Well, reading some of the comments...

It is titled "Karate Kid" and does in ways mirror the original. To say it is better than the original seems quite unfair. The original is very good. Will Smith's son plays the part very well. Jackie Chan's role is a little slow to develop, but comes around.

It is more a Karate Kid movie than a Jackie Chan movie. It is also a Kung Fu movie; it is in China, not Japan, and regardless of the title, it does not propose to be teaching Karate.

Karate Kid is a film about a kid named Dre Parker who due to his mother’s career, has moved to China. Dre Parker meets a girl named Mei Ying and he seems to like her but, this relationship is opposed by a kid named Cheng. Compared to Dre, Cheng is quite adept in the arts of Karate and after an encounter with Cheng, Dre is left with a black eye and is unsure of what he can do. Afterwards, Dre meets a maintenance man named Mr. Han. Mr. Han offers to teach Dre how to defend himself using Karate. Karate Kid was an amazing movie to watch and I really enjoyed seeing Dre progress in the arts of Karate, and I think that this is a good movie to watch with family. Overall, I would rate Karate Kid 5/5

Should be PG-13 for violence though it's PG

I like Jackie Chan, but the whole entire premise of this movie is stupid. Beyond stupid. Mildly entertaining but often annoying. It could have been improved a bit by concentrating on Chan instead of that snotty kid.

I really enjoyed this movie and thought it was well done. I liked the fact that the producers did not try to remake the original but make a movie that was similar yet its own and not just a remake. They put distance between this and the original so it is its own movie.

Mr. Han: You have taught me very important lesson, Xiao Dre. Life will knock us down, but we can choose whether or not to stand back up.
