Take your Eye Off the Ball

How to Watch Football by Knowing Where to Look

Today's NFL fans have more viewing options than ever before. Each and every week, football addicts plant themselves in front of big-screen, high-definition TVs and watch the game they love unfold via slow-motion replays and multiple camera angles, pausing and fast-forwarding the action on their DVRs as they please. Yet while more and more football fans are watching the NFL each week, many of them don't know exactly what they should be watching. Take Your Eye Off the Ball is not a beginner's introduction to football, nor is it a technical manual for only the most studious of fans. Instead, it clearly and simply explains the intricacies and nuances that affect the outcomes of every NFL game.

Very good book. I might be difficult for someone new to American football to follow but if you already think you "know" the game then this book will enhance that knowledge. Pat Kirwan is a very knowledgeable radio host for NFL Radio and has a wealth of knowledge and tells it like it is. After reading this book you will have a better understanding if you choose to watch detailed football analysis on television or listen on the radio.

Not a good choice. Full of jargon and name-dropping. Explanations are difficult to understand as are the diagrams. Lines like: If you are going to bull rush Michael Strahan into the deep slot . . . . (!?) Check out "How to watch a football game" instead. It is 30 years old, but the diagrams are easy to follow and the basics have not changed.

Good book for the football fan. Lots of personal stories and explanation of jargon. Good title.
