A naked woman in red high-heeled shoes is perched on the edge of Clifton Suspension Bridge with her back pressed to the safety fence, weeping into a mobile phone. Clinical psychologist Joseph O'Loughlin is only feet away, desperately trying to talk her down. She whispers, 'you don't understand,' and jumps.

Later, Joe has a visitor - the woman's teenage daughter, a runaway from boarding school. She refuses to believe that her mother would have jumped off the bridge - not only would she not commit suicide, she is terrified of heights.

Joe wants to believe her, but what would drive a woman to such a desperate act? Whose voice? What evil?

The hero is a psychologist w Parkinson's Disease and great empathy for the victims - women and children. I've got to love this guy. Not at all gory. Well written, no shortage of witty singers to keep one well entertained.

Shatter : This book raises the bar on thrills and evil.

An extremely well written psychological thriller that delves into the darkest corners of the human mind.

Scary !!

Excellent novel, first time I have read Michael Robotham - definite page turner. Have since searched out other titles from Robotham and have not been disappointed!

Greatly appreciated that the references the author made to earlier interactions between the characters (from previous novels) were general enough that the reader was aware of earlier history between the characters without having to have read the other novels. For me there is nothing worse than trying out an author or novel just to find out that it is a continuation of an earlier plot or ongoing character development where as a reader I feel lost not having read the earlier novels.

Robotham does a wonderful job of linking the characters through all his novels without the reader having to follow the character and relationship development by reading the novels in order.

Well written, fast moving, page turning book. No long descriptions that detracted from the suspense.
