He still has a real life story that can inspire a story to become a fable. And that happens after fictional Joseph Burke meets real life Jackie Robinson. It's 1947 and Burke, a shattered war veteran moving on after a failed marriage, begins to work as a bodyguard. Job one goes sour but Burke gets a job two: working as a white bodyguard for the first black ballplayer in the major leagues, Jackie Robinson. Written with a careful attention to human yearlings and race relations, this winning book also includes separate childhood recollections from the author during this period.

This fiction-based-on-fact novel was quite enjoyable. It takes place the year Jackie Robinson is brought up to the majors and revolves around he and his bodyguard.
