(Not to be confused with the other great rock band The Guess Who from the same era.) Pete Townshend, Pete Townshend and more Pete Townshend. Checked this out in early 2015 and re-listen now. Pop hard rock with melodic vocals ... The Who are an English, heavy metal, rock band that formed in 1964. Their classic line-up consisted of lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist/singer Pete Townshend, bass guitarist John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon. They are considered to be one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century, selling over 100 million records worldwide and holding a reputation for their energetic live shows and solid studio work.
The group's contributions to rock music include the power chord, windmill strum, and the use of non-musical instrument noise such as feedback. The band influenced fashion from their earliest days with their embrace of pop art and the use of the Union Jack for clothing. The guitar-smashing incident at the Railway Hotel in 1964 is one of Rolling Stone magazine's "50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock 'n' Roll".
This "Ultimate Collection" is a 2-disc set that contains 35 tracks in all, which were recorded by The Who in the years from 1964-1982. Three of my favourites are - Magic Bus, Squeeze Box, and Baba O'Riley.... (*Be sure to watch music-video*)..... *Note* - As of today - Peter Townsend and Roger Daltrey are the only 2 remaining original members of The Who still living.
