Summary
Add a SummaryTwo brothers, Prosper and Bo, run away from their aunt to Venice. Here they find new friends and live on the streets to survive. Soon they find out a detective hired by their aunt is looking for them. Will they get caught and be sent back to their horrible aunt?
so theres this boy that is called the thief lord and he meets these 2 boys and they join his troop of thieves. but what happened before that was that the 2 boys ran away from their ant, and so theres someone looking for them and they go on fun journeys of a thieves life.
Welcome to Venice, city of canals, home to splendid basilicas, and roost for pigeons and winged lions. For the orphaned brothers Prosper and Bo, however, Venice is more than a paradise; it is a sanctuary that protects the two from their unpleasant aunt and uncle.
Amid abandoned movie theatres and alleyways, the brothers find refuge among unlikely companions. The tightly-knit group of young thieves led under the elusive "Thief Lord" offer Prosper and Bo shelter, home, and warmth.
But when a mysterious request arrives from an even more mysterious man, a sequence of astounding events is set in motion. As Prosper and Bo struggle to stay together despite their relatives' interference, the true identity of "the Thief Lord" is revealed and trust is tested. Amid all the commotion is the request which guides the brothers and their companions to "growing up".
A time-unraveling tale of magic and mystery, of which perhaps the greatest of all is the "coming of age".

The Thief Lord was an excellent read. The characters were well written with depth and development. The plot had ups and downs and twists and turns. Full of magic, mystery, and adventure The Thief Lord is the perfect book for anyone with a taste for mischief.
This book is an amazing read. I've read it over and over again - Cornelia Funke is one of my favorite authors, and the Thief Lord is just one of her many wonderful books. The characters are detailed and fit into the plot perfectly, making this a book I suggest strongly for everyone.
I love this book and also own it. Its about two boys who dont like being rich and run away from home from there aunt.
this book was by far one of the best books I have read. I loved this book so much that I got so many ideas for books I might want to right!
In this book two young children, Bo and Prosper, travel to the magical city of Venice to escape their mean and cruel aunt. In their travels they meet a band of runaway children and their mysterious leader, "The Theif Lord". Little do they know that they are being trailed by a highly trained detective hired by their aunt, and that their leader is not who they think him to be. The magical twist at the end of the story will catch you by surprise and will really make you think. Come in to your local Lake Villa Library to read this book for your self!!
Well done fantasy with an authentically composed ending.
If you love children surviving on their own, you will love this story. Two brothers-Prosper and Bo- are at the heart of this story. Their wealthy aunt and uncle choose to adopt the younger Bo and not Prosper upon their mother's death. To escape, the boys run away to Venice. Naturally, their aunt follows and hires a detective.
But Prosper and Bo have a few tricks up their sleeve. They have fallen in with a group of orphans who are taken care of by the mysterious Thief Lord
The characters are wonderfully written-especially Prosper. And nothing turns out the way you think it might. There are small inklings if magic. But mostly this book reminded of your favorite childhood tales with hideouts and childish survival like Peter Pan or even the Goonies.
