Russell Crowe gives a heartbreaking performance is this often depressing , albeit captivating and engaging drama that has something for everyone.

A wonderful movie well-done: the genius to overcome a severely debilitating disorder. Russel Crowe not only has the depth to do a manly part like Gladiator, but a more nuanced part like this. He also is a real man in real life unlike all of the liberal cartoon men in Hollywood.

Truly extraordinary. Tender and thoughtful. I watched it again recently, and it loses nothing from knowing what is going to happen next. Russell Crowe is superb. Tells a tale seldom told, with great respect and intelligent script writing.

Great movie, though there were a few mature scenes we had to skip. Russell Crowe, Paul Bettany, and Jennifer Connelly are all great actors. Actually, I read somewhere that Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly first met during the filming of this movie and married soon after.

Good luck. Excruciatingly long. I managed to watch an hour and a half and that was it. The music, which should complement a film, was overbearing. The John Nash character, played by Russell Crowe, was laughable per his speech. He spoke with an Eton prep-school, Oxford University British English accent much of the time, interspersed with a southern drawl that would make any Texan's viewing the movie stand tall and polish their guns, rifles and shotguns.
I haven't seen a major American movie with such an awful accent by a lead actor since Morgan Freeman, who is an otherwise outstanding actor, played Nelson Mandela with an unintentionally howlingly funny accent in Invictus.

Absolutely stunning film, masterfully directed by Ron Howard. Russell Crowe is a superb actor who does not get enough credit for his roles. Nash was a brilliant but troubled genius whose full story is yet to be told.

If you can look well-beyond this bio-film's exaggerated sentimentality, its "schizophrenia" whitewashing, and the fact that its story was only very loosely based on the real-life genius/mathematician, John Nash, then, yes, you just might find it's worth sitting all the way through its 135-minute running time (which did, indeed, wear on this viewer's patience more than once).

From my perspective - A Beautiful Mind seemed to be more interested in spotlighting Nash's mental illness (and his imaginary friends/alter egos) than it did about concentrating on his amazing ability to crunch all of those numbers.

As well - The focus on Nash's relationship with Alicia Larde (unconvincingly played by Jennifer Connelly), who eventually became his wife, certainly had a tendency to become an irksome "soap opera" bore, which grated on my nerves, often enough.

A Beautiful Mind covers approximately 40 years of Nash's life, from the 1950s to the 1990s, when he was co-awarded the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences. Nash is still alive today.

Anyways - Regardless of my beefs and believing that this film has really been so over-rated, I still give it a 3-star rating.

*Note* - If you have the time - I suggest you Google images of John Nash just to see how his looks compare to those of Russell Crowe's, the actor who portrayed him in this film - And prepare yourself for something of a mild shock-eroo!

A wonderful movie... very imaginative...

If you watch the movie strictly for entertainment, it's not bad. If you try to watch the movie and equate it with the book, you'll wonder why you're wasting your time. The book is very compelling and more interesting than the contrived movie plot.
