Calvin and Hobbes is by far my favorite comic of all time. Nearly all the strips are hilarious, but more than that, Watterson makes full use of the meduim: Calvin and Hobbes is fun to look at. Never just a bunch of talking heads like many comics are. I encourage you to find the books (not sure which ones these are, but the library does have them) with the author's commentary.
