This film isn't just fascinating on its own. It holds an important place in history given how well it captures the national mood of the time. With crime becoming more and more of a problem, and nasty figures known as 'serial killers' gaining ever bigger fame on the news, it makes perfect sense in retrospect why the movie would get so popular. Clint Eastwood, as has been famously stated many times by many reviewers, does an excellent job in what is the first of a whole film series. The side characters are particularly interesting as well.

Tense, suspenseful and disturbing--the best of the Dirty Harry Callahan franchise, expertly directed by key Eastwood mentor-collaborator, Don Siegel.
Contains one of the great Eastwood performances: spare, tough and wryly witty.

Andy Robinson gives a great performance as Scorpio, a psycho killer extortionist. I would rate "Dirty Harry" at 5.0 stars.

When released in 1971, this film caused an international sensation. It featured a vigilante who attacked the American legal system and law enforcement system from within. Inspector Callahan's sole obsession was to hunt down violent criminals from behind a police badge.

Clint Eastwood is a San Francisco Police Detective. This may be one of the best police detective movies as Eastwood plays detective Harry Callahan. Great chase scenes especially at the close of the movie. A Five Star Original Detective Movie!!

I was bowled over by this movie when I first saw it in High School back in 1971 and have to return to it every once in a while. An Eastwood "shoot 'em up' Classic!

This movie was entertaining but not one of my favorite for this year. “Not too bad---good performance”.
