A short excerpt: But not the memory of his dead father, nor the pleading of his soft-voiced mother, nor the warning of this uncle who stood before him now, had brought to Buck Duane so much realization of the dark passionate strain in his blood.

This book was a good read until Zane Grey started confusing
history with fiction. He has a Captain Macnelly of the Texas
Rangers, who I believe is based on Captain Leander Mcnelly
of those rangers. McNelly is credited with fighting the
fictional Cheseldine gang in the Big bend area. Also, the main
character Buck Duane is credited with killing John Wesley hardin,
instead of the actual killer, John Selman. Sometimes it's ok to mix history
with fiction, but at least make sure the historical parts are accurate.
