Sixto Rodriguez failed as a young singer in the early 1970s, but managed to scrape by making a living for the next 40 years working as a day labourer in Detroit. Unbeknownst to him, he had been and still was a Superstar in South Africa. …

My girlfriend thought it was terrific story about a man with a lot of talent. I was tired and fell asleep and woke up in time to enjoy the last 15 minuets.

A truth is stranger than fiction documentary. What if you were a superstar and didn't know it? I came away from watching this with a lot of respect for Sixto Rodriguez.

Brilliant storytelling and cinematography. I will be revisiting this film again and again. Highly recommend watching the bonus clip of how the film was made. Rodriguez has been to Edmonton a few times, latest of which was summer of 2017!

A fascinating documentary about a Detroit folk singer of the 80's (his voice sounds like a combination of Dylan and Don McLean) who never found a following in a North America but became a legend in South Africa

A sharp and engaging documentary that looks at the life and music of an unknown artist. The feel-good story highlights the fickle nature of fame and leaves us still with a sense of mystery about Rodriguez.
