Comment
Add a CommentI absolutely loved it. I finished it in less than a day, even less than 12 hours. Started in the afternoon, finished moments before midnight! The characters were endearing, funny, and very real. I couldn't imagine ever being friends with Alaska at first, but after a while, her strange combination of bad girl and bibliophile got to me. The middle was incredibly sad, and yes- I cried. But by the end, I got over it, and it isn't the type of thing I can usually forgive an author for. But I definitely forgave John Green for it. This is a book which I will read again. And probably buy... And then drag with me to college to read again.
One of my all-time favourite books by one of my all all-time favourite authors. John Green knows how to write in a way no one else can for an audience that is so tired of the same old, same old love stories. Before reading his books, I was starting to believe that no one was writing YA fiction for those of us who care about more than parties and popularity. This book is deep without being pretentious, mature in all the right ways, funny when it needs to be, and downright heartbreaking in all the right places. Beautiful story, spectacularly written, recommended for anyone, Nerdfighter or otherwise! (Although to all you Nerdfighters out there, keep in mind that it is pretty much required reading. DFTBA!)
This book is so good, at first it was confusing but then the storylline got clearer the more I read.<3
I loved it from beginning to end! Great book that was down to earth but so meaningful in a way that interests us teens. It's so deep that there were several pages that I kept rereading, getting a different affect each time. Something I'm sure everyone would enjoy.
This is one of my favourite books, closely followed by another book by John Green Paper Town. I love it so much and I am most likely going to read it more than a few times. I recommend it!
I loved it! I don't usually cry for books, but this made me a little teary. It was very symbolic and you'll remember it even after years you've read it.
Really aewesome funny book, quick read. Loved the first half the second half dragged on a little.
such an AMAZING book!
A fantastic read. It reads slightly like Catcher in the Rye (and has been compared to said book on occasion), though I always disliked that novel. "Looking For Alaska" captures an audience in a way that I've never experienced from a writer. Compelling, honest, and touching, it truly seems to capture and describe human instincts and the natural way in which we react.
This novel is a brilliant mixture of humour, reflection, and insight. Miles' experiences in boarding school is filled with some truly entertaining pranks, profound statements on the nature of life, and the truly painful process of growing up. However, what is perhaps the best aspect of this novel is its exploration of how difficult it is to truly know any other person and that despite that difficulty other people are still capable of making deep changes in us. Beautiful, compelling, and entertaining, this novel is definitely worth experiencing.
